Texts

(1a) GPet 25-28 (= chs 7-8)

/25/ Then the Judeans and the elders and the priests perceived what evil they had done to themselves, and began to beat their breasts and cry out "Our sins have brought woes upon us! The judgment and the end Jerusalem are at hand!" /26/ But I began weeping with my friends. And quivering with fear in our hearts, we hid ourselves. After all, we were being sought by them as criminals and as ones wishing to burn down the temple. /27/ As a result of all these things, we fasted and sat mourning and weeping night and day until the sabbath. /28/ When the scholars and the Pharisees and the priests had gathered together, and when they heard that all the people were moaning and beating their breasts, and saying "If his death has produced these overwhelming signs, he must have been entirely innocent!" [Complete Gospels]

(1b) Luke 23:48

/23:48/ And when all the crowds who had gathered there for this spectacle saw what had taken place, they returned home, beating their breasts.
