(1a) 2Q: Luke 3:15-18 = Matt 3:11-12
/3:15/ As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, /16/ John answered all of them by saying, "I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. /17/ His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." /18/ So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people.
Matt 3:11-12
/3:11/ "I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. /12/ His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
(1b) Acts 13:24-25
/13:24/ before his coming John had already proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. /25/ And as John was finishing his work, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but one is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of the sandals on his feet."
(1c) John 1:24-28; 3:23-26
/1:24/ Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. /25/ They asked him, "Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" /26/ John answered them, "I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, /27/ the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal." /28/ This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing.
?=John 3:23-26
/3:23/ John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim because water was abundant there; and people kept coming and were being baptized /24/ --John, of course, had not yet been thrown into prison. /25/ Now a discussion about purification arose between John's disciples and a Jew. /26/ They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, here he is baptizing, and all are going to him." /27/ John answered, "No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven. /28/ You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, 'I am not the Messiah, but I have been sent ahead of him.' /29/ He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled. /30/ He must increase, but I must decrease."
(2) Mark 1:7-8
/1:7/ He proclaimed, "The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. /8/ I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
